The Game

Grand Theft Auto VI is Rockstar Games' return to Vice City, set in the fictional state of Leonida — the studio's modern reimagining of Florida. It marks the first new entry in the mainline series since 2013's GTA V, and the first time the series has ever placed a woman at the center of its single-player story as a full, voiced protagonist. The narrative follows Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, two small-time criminals whose lives collide and who become partners in crime — a contemporary, sun-soaked take on the Bonnie and Clyde story. Their relationship, built on shared adversity, attraction, and ambition, is the emotional spine of the game: a romance and a criminal partnership at once, with both protagonists playable across the campaign.

The setting expands on the neon-and-pastel identity of the original 1986 Vice City while filtering it through a modern lens — glamour and decay sitting side by side, tourist gloss over a harder underground economy of drug running, gangs, music-industry hustle, and viral fame. Leonida is built as Rockstar's largest and most densely detailed open world to date, reportedly 1.5 to 2 times the scale of GTA V's San Andreas, with reports of 700+ enterable interiors, dense NPC behavior, and a strong emphasis on water-based traversal alongside the usual driving, shooting, and heist gameplay the series is known for. The world spans six confirmed regions — from the high-rise sprawl of Vice City itself out to swampland, industrial ports, mountain wilderness, and a tropical island chain — giving the game a far more varied set of biomes than any prior entry.

Beyond its scale, GTA VI is notable for the ambition of its character writing: rather than splitting the story across three protagonists with contrasting tones as GTA V did, the entire narrative rests on the chemistry between two leads who must feel like equals and partners throughout. Around them orbits a colorful supporting cast of drug runners, bank robbers, strip-club moguls, and aspiring rappers — the kind of densely interconnected criminal ecosystem the series has always thrived on, now built around the music industry and viral internet culture as much as classic Vice City vice.
